Anatomical Studies on the Arteries of the Brain Base in Korean

Abstract
The author studied the length of the arteries of the Willis¢¥ circle and the caliber of the arteries of the brain base using 186 infant cadavers (male 76, female 110) and 77 adult cadavers (male 50, female 27) of Korean and obtained following results:
1. No difference could be found in either sexes and sides in the length of the arteries of the Willis¢¥ circle in adults.
2. No difference could be found in either sexes and sides in the caliber of the arteries of the brain base in adults.
3. The growth rate in the length of the Willis¢¥ circle of male infants were larger than those of female infants but no difference could be found in either sides.
4. The growth rate of the caliber of tl.e arteries in brain base was generally larger in female infants than in male infants, but in the left and right posterior inferior cerebellar artery, the anterior spinal artery (H and 11 type), the left posterior cerebral artery (circular part) and the left vertebral artery it was larger in male infants than in female infants.
5. The relatively noticeable increase was recognized during the period of infancy in the caliber of the anterior, middle and posterior cerebral artery, the vertebral artery and the basilar artery.
6. The growth rate in the early half of the infantile period was larger in male than in female but in the later half it was larger in female than in male.
7. The calibers of the arteries of the brain base of the adults were generally 0.2 to 0. 5 times larger than those of infants.
